MD-500 Portable - Designed for precision steady state tuning
Mustang’s Portable MD-500 Series dynamometer is a modified version of our tried and true 500 Series dynamometer. A standard pallet jack and a set of crank-leveling casters have been incorporated into the dyne frame in order to allow the dyno to be moved around the shop or loaded into a trailer for transporting to another facility or to off-site events. A collapsible vehicle restraint system provides a safe and secure means for strapping vehicles down, while a set of aluminum 14′ ramps makes it easy to load vehicle on and off the dyno.
Everything else that you would expect to find in a standard MD-500 Series remains the same. The 500 Dyno is a field-proven 2WD performance dyno with an excellent track record for handling very aggressive, high-torque performance vehicles. A set of 12.625″ rollers are directly-coupled to a large 900-hp eddy current brake. A strain gauge torque sensor measures the torque being applied to the rollers, while a 60-tooth speed sensor collects roller speed information. This data is fed into the PowerDyne controller which continuously adjusts the load to the vehicle to simulate whatever driving condition you are trying to simulate on the dyno. In addition to collecting torque and speed data, Mustang’s PowerDyne Software collects and allows you to graph countless data channels.
The MD-500 is also a low inertia dynamometer, which means it has enhanced sensitivity to minor and rapid changes in torque and power being applied by your cars – making it ideal for precision steady state tuning.
With 1,500-hp measurement capacity, the MD-500 can handle high performance front wheel and rear wheel drive vehicles. If your shop caters to the motorcyle market too, the MD-500 series can be purchased with the optional motorcycle adaptor kit.
Mustang’s PowerDyne PC Software is Windows based, and offers the user the ability to test and tune vehicles using the industry’s most expansive software program. In addition to steady state tuning, PowerDyne allows the user to perform Power Pulls, Drive-cycle Emulation, 1/4 and 1/8 mile Sprint Tests, Emulated Emissions Tests, and General Road-Testing. A full graphing and report utility is available to the user for post-analysis of individual runs.
