MD-AWD-150 Series AWD Chassis Dynamometer

Twinsburg, OH – April 16, 2012 – Mustang Dynamometer announced the newest member in their lineup of world-class AWD dynamometers: the MD-AWD-150.

The AWD-150 series dynamometer was designed in response to increased customer demand for a lower-cost AWD dynamometer that doesn’t sacrifice on performance. By strategically eliminating key cost factors, the engineers at Mustang Dynamometer were able to design this baseline system in a way that maximizes its economy, while maintaining the high level of quality expected from a Mustang dyno.

The AWD-150 still boasts an impressive feature set for a baseline AWD dynamometer system. The front and rear rollers are mechanically linked with a 98-percent efficient Kevlar belt, and with an optional automatic on/off coupler the dyno can be switched between 2WD and AWD modes with the push of a button. It also has an inside track width range of 18 to 80 inches, a 96- to 122-inch wheelbase standard (longer available), can measure 2,000 hp and hit a max speed of 175 mph. As with every performance dynamometer from Mustang Dynamometer, a full version of Mustang’s PowerDyne software package is also included.

Mustang Introduces AWD-800 Dynamometer

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Mustang Dynamometer recently announced the introduction of its latest AWD dyno to its industry leading lineup of performance chassis dynos, the MD-AWD-800 Series. The MD-AWD-800 dynamometer offers the perfect combination of power and finesse for precision tuning applications. Add in the flexibility to test everything from AWD vehicles to motorcycles, and you have a dyno that can do it all and set you apart from the competition.

The AWD-800 offers a 24″ single roll or split-roll primary roller that is directly coupled to a powerful eddy current power absorption unit via an oversized shaft. The 12.625″ AWD roller section of the dyno is mechaically-linked to the primary roller set via a robust, field-proven belt drive system. Mustang’s mechanical linkage system is a field-proven linkage system that eliminates wheelbase adjustment of the dyno by linking all of the rollers together to provide a simple and stable front-to-rear wheel speed synchronization system. An auto-clutch allows the system to switch between 2WD and AWD modes with a click of the mouse.

Mustang designed the MD-AWD-800 Series to be a dyno that could be easily adapted to fit virtually any testing scenario without ever having to compromise. In AWD mode, the 800 Series XL can test AWD vehicles with wheelbases up to 134” long, enough to handle Hummer H1s. In 2WD mode, the 800 Series uses a single 24” diameter roller with a low base mechanical inertia to allow you to test the lightest vehicles out there. As an option, the 24” roller can be ordered as a “split-roll”, which allows the system to be further de-coupled, taking the system down to a single 24” roller coupled to the PAU, perfect for testing motorcycles.

Mustang will be premiering the MD-AWD-800 at the IMIS Trade Show, December 8-10, 2011 in Indy. Stop in and see this great machine first hand.

The AWD-500-AC/EC Hybrid

Mustang Dynamometer and Mustang Advanced Engineering today announced the introduction of the Company’s latest new series of products, the AWD-500-AC/EC Hybrid Series Chassis Dynamometers. With the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle segment growing at such an astonishing rate, Mustang has developed the AWD-500-AC/EC Hybrid Series to provide an ultra-fast responding, highly-accurate and sophisticated HEV and EV R&D dynamometer that is both cost effective and loaded with advanced testing and simulation capabilities. The AWD-500-AC/EC Hybrid Series dynamometers were designed as pre-certification development workhorses, capable of testing both 2WD and AWD hybrid and electric vehicles with wheelbase as short as 66.5-inches and as long as 146-inches.

A mechanically-linked roller system synchronizes the front and back roller speeds to simulate a flat, dry road condition. Synchronization, or linkage, insures that the front and rear rollers are always spinning at precisely the same road speed when in AWD Mode, thereby eliminating the possibility of activating a vehicle’s traction control system and insuring that a vehicle’s torque management system is operating under the assumption that the vehicle is not skidding, turning or slipping.

The AWD-500-AC/EC Series incorporates an AC drive motor and a powerful air-cooled eddy current power absorbtion unit to provide the perfect combination of precision, power and economy. Systems are available with AC Motors ranging from 100-hp up to 600-hp and with one or two air-cooled eddy current PAUs for extended testing and to meet the needs of your testing applications.
